Product Precooling
Proper precooling of products will have a positive impact on their shelf life and improve cargo shipments. Products should always be precooled to the required transport temperature before loading them into the container.
In addition, refrigerated containers are designed to maintain the temperature of the product, not to reduce it. When products are loaded at a temperature higher than the transport temperature, the burden on the refrigeration unit will be very large, which may eventually cause the machine to fail.
Container Precooling
The container should also be precooled by running the unit with the door closed for about 30 minutes before loading the precooled product, or until the set temperature is reached.
After precooling, the unit should be turned off and the product loaded immediately for best results. If hot, humid air enters the refrigeration unit, the moisture will condense on the cold cooling coils and turn into ice. The cooled air will not be confined to the container and will escape from the rear door as the cycle continues.
During loading and unloading, the unit should remain closed to avoid excessive ice accumulation on the cooling coils. Once ice forms, the machine will enter a short defrost mode. As a result, the capacity available to cool the cargo is reduced.
